Dubloons are the currency of Krawk Island. They can be won from Coltzan's Shrine, found in Random Events, or purchased from shops. They are also the only real alternative to using Codestones to train your Neopet, since Dubloons can be used at the Cap'n Threelegs' Swashbuckling Academy on Krawk Island. Neopets Dubloon Disaster In Dubloon Disaster, you control a pirate named Dorak, trying to collect dubloons with his rowboat. Ahoy, it's the Swashbuckling Academy! Yer landlubbin' pets can come 'ere to train up for the Battledome, just like on that there Mystery Island school place, though they be nothin' compared to how good we be!
The Academy is run by good old Cap'n Threelegs, a White Eyrie who gives free training to pets both on their species' pet day and on November 15 (Neopets' birthday). On those day you'd have to be crazy not to run on over and give your pet free training, but what about the other three hundred and sixty-three days of the year when you have to pay to train? This guide has been written to help you decide a number of things involving the Academy, like whether you should train there or elsewhere and the concept of Dubloons, so let's get on with it!
What are Dubloons?
Dubloons are the main currency used on Krawk Island, and since the Swashbuckling Academy is located there that's what you use to pay for your pet's training. There are a vast number of different Dubloons available in Neopia, and the higher the number the higher the price; likewise, the higher the Level of your pet, the higher the Dubloon needed to pay for the training.
Here is a list on our Item Database of all existing Dubloons, though you can only use the One, Two, and Five Dubloon Coins at the Academy.

Where can I get Dubloons?
The main places to get Dubloons are from other users, Coltzan's Shrine and Anchor Management. The Shop Wizard is a good place to look if you're willing to spend Neopoints on them or, if you're really patient, you can aim to get one from one of the dailies for free every once in a while. Your best bet would be to buy them if you want to train quickly.
Which is better: Dubloons or codestones?
Once it was rather difficult to decide between paying Dubloons or Codestones. However, after the Krawk Island Disappearance and the addition of The Forgotten Shore and Anchor Management dailies, Dubloons have drastically decreased in price, making them generally cheaper than Codestones. Although, in some cases you may be able to get Codestones at a cheaper price, when training at the Training School, there is no certainty of which kind of Codestone you will have to pay.
However, the Training School courses are ever so slightly faster than those at the Academy. So it largely depends on what the most important factor is for you: time or money.
How do I train there?
Well, you know what you need to know about Dubloons so now I'll explain how you actually use them to raise the stats of your pet. First, there will be five options at the top of the Academy pages: Main, Courses, Status, Sayings and Leave.
Main gets you to the main Academy page, which basically gives you a painfully basic rundown of the place. With this guide, you shouldn't need it!
Courses lets you choose which pet you want to put in which class, how much you'll need to pay for the training and how long it'll take to complete.
Status shows which pets of yours are currently training (if any), if you've paid for the training yet or not and presents you with the option of paying for the training so that your pet will begin its learning.
Sayings simply takes you to a page where there's a picture of Cap'n Threelegs and some unimportant words of wisdom of his; this isn't worth your time unless you're curious.
Leave brings you back to the main map of Neopia.
Don't forget, your pet's training doesn't start until you pay for it; once you do, the Status page will show you how long you have until your pet's training is finished. Once it is, you can go to that page and click on the new button that shows up to officially finish the training and give your pet his or her stat boost.
Sent the wrong pet to training? No matter! The Swashbuckling Academy is the only training school where you can cancel a training session if you haven't already paid for it.
We need speed. Speed's what we need. Greasy speed!
What are the costs to train?
Training is free to pets on their species' annual celebration day, and to all pets on November 15, on Neopets' birthday.
At all other times, you must pay with Dubloons. The Dubloons required for the Academy are considerably cheaper than the Codestones needed for the Mystery Island Training School but the time your pet spends training (how long it is until you can enroll them again) is much longer. So it is up to you to decide which is better for your particular situation. Below is a table explaining the cost and length of each course.

What happens if I train?
Your pet gets a stat boost, which stat gets boosted depending on which class you put him or her in. Endurance will give your pet an extra Hit Point while Strength, Defence, Agility and Level will raise his or her Strength, Defence, Speed or Level respectively.
Plus, there's always the possibility of getting bonus boosts like with the Mystery Island Training School. When that happens, instead of a stat getting raised by one point, it gets raised by two or more, the maximum being five! (But the higher the number the rarer the chance.)
Are there limits to how much I can train?
Somewhat like the other training schools, you can train your pet until one of her stats is more than twice her Level. For example, if your pet is Level 25, you can train any or all of her stats so long as they all stay at 50 or below--as soon as one of her stats gets to 51 or above, you will have to raise her Level to continue her training regimen.
Also, you can only train your pet at the Swashbuckling Academy until they're Level 40—once at Level 41 your pet will have to seek training elsewhere. I don't know why; maybe TNT wanted to make sure that the Mystery Island Training School was guaranteed some business.
Should I even bother training?
That depends on a variety of different things; if you have one of the most powerful pets in Neopia there's tons of fame involved, there are the wars in the Neopets plots that require you to have a strong pet and there are plenty of avatars that you can only get in the Battledome, like when you beat the Ghost Lupe or Meuka. Many of the opponents have high difficulty ratings, which means that your pet needs to have high stats to have a good chance of winning the battle (you'll probably also need good weapons, though).
So, in my opinion, it's generally a good idea to do some training somewhere just so that you can get the avatars and when some wars come around, you can score a few points for the prizes!
